Walter Smith, her father was a market researcher working in the computer industry and Lora Smith who was her mother was a psychotherapist. Courtney's parents split when she was seven. Courtney spent time with each parent in various levels. Jennifer the elder sister is employed in the field of advertising. The school she attended was Menlo-Atherton High located in Atherton California, and Tamalpais High School situated in Mill Valley California. The actress has also performed for Ensemble Theater Company Mill Valley in her time as an high school student.
